7000 series aluminum alloys (Al-Zn-Mg series alloys) are heat-treatable-strengthened aluminum alloys, which can be roughly divided into high-strength weldable alloys and ultra-high-strength alloys.
High-strength weldable alloys (Al-Zn-Mg alloys) have good thermal deformation properties, a wide quenching range, high strength (obtained under appropriate heat treatment conditions), good welding performance, good general corrosion resistance, and a certain stress corrosion tendency. It is a high-strength weldable aluminum alloy. In addition, this series of alloys has the following two characteristics in weldability and stress corrosion resistance: 1) it has a strong strengthening effect by adding trace elements such as manganese, scandium, chromium, zirconium, titanium, etc. 2) materials with good performance can be obtained by the adjusting process conditions including heat treatment.
Ultra-high strength alloys (Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys). The strength of this alloy is higher than that of 2000 series aluminum alloy. The yield strength of the alloy is close to the tensile strength, and the yield strength ratio is high, but the plasticity and high temperature strength are low, so it should be used as a load-bearing structure at room temperature and below 120℃. The alloy is easy to process, and has good corrosion resistance and high toughness. This series of aluminum alloys is represented by 7075 alloy. This series of alloys is widely used in aviation and aerospace, and has become one of the most important structural materials in this field. In recent years, sporting goods such as ski poles and golf bats have also been made of this alloy.
